A wonderful vintage 1970s studio pottery pilgrim flask, or costrel, inspired by traditional European vessels used for carrying liquids while travelling. Featuring a distinctive flattened, rounded form with a narrow neck and beautifully tactile handmade surface, this piece has all the character and individuality associated with British studio pottery of the period.
 
The organic shape and earthy ceramic finish give it a wonderfully rustic, primitive quality, while its unusual form makes it an intriguing decorative object. Originally inspired by historic pilgrim and travelling vessels, costrels were designed to be carried against the body or attached to a belt or strap.
