Beautiful vintage Japanese ceramic tray, dating to around the 1970s, with an elongated form and richly textured brown and bronze-toned glaze.
 
The organic shape and earthy metallic glaze give this piece a lovely studio-pottery feel, with subtle variations across the surface that make it particularly tactile and decorative. The elongated form works beautifully as a small serving tray, catchall or simply as a sculptural piece displayed on a shelf or coffee table.
 
The piece bears the UCAGCO mark. UCAGCO, short for United China & Glass Company, was a US-based importer and distributor that worked with a number of Japanese potteries, particularly during the mid-20th century.
