A wonderfully characterful Arts and Crafts brass mirror in the style of the Glasgow School, with distinctive metalwork construction and an attractive aged finish.

The mirror features a brass front frame with a black-japanned metal backplate, giving it a striking contrast between the warm brass and dark, glossy backing. The brass is wrapped around the internal structure and secured along the edges with small, flush-headed pins, showcasing the considered construction and attention to detail that make early decorative metalwork so appealing.

The reverse retains its brass hanging chain and D-ring brackets, secured with slotted screws. The aged surface, dark oxidation and wear across the metalwork contribute to the mirror's wonderfully timeworn character.

The design evokes the Arts and Crafts movement and the decorative language associated with the Glasgow School, with stylistic similarities to work attributed to Margaret Gilmour. The combination of brass, dark japanned metal and traditional hanging hardware gives the piece a strong period feel.

A lovely decorative mirror for an eclectic interior, whether displayed above a console, in a hallway or as part of a collection of Arts and Crafts and early decorative metalwork.
