A fantastic antique Canadian pressed tin ceiling tile, salvaged from a historic property in Ontario and dating to the late 19th Century.
 
This is a beautifully detailed example of historic Canadian architectural metalwork, featuring a highly decorative six-point rosette surrounded by sweeping acanthus leaves and Victorian scrollwork. The relief is impressively deep, giving the design wonderful depth and shadow when displayed on a wall.
 
The real star of this piece is its authentic aged and heavily oxidised surface, with layers of rich chocolate brown, orange and rust tones creating an incredible natural patina. The surface retains all the character you would hope for from genuine architectural salvage, including historic wear, oxidation, flaking and irregular edges.
 
Canadian pressed tin ceilings became an important feature of late Victorian and early 20th-century interiors, with manufacturers including The Pedlar People of Oshawa and The Metallic Roofing Company of Toronto producing decorative architectural metalwork during this period. While this individual panel is unmarked and has not been definitively attributed to a particular manufacturer, its design and construction are consistent with this period of Canadian pressed-tin production.
